Jersey City police say a man was killed when the vehicle he apparently was driving plunged into the water near Liberty State Park.
The body of 22-year-old city resident Mark Pych was recovered shortly after authorities responded to the scene of the crash, which occurred at the end of Marin Boulevard. It was reported around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, and members of the New York City Police Department's dive team found the body a short time later.
Authorities were trying to determine if Pych was by himself when the crash occurred. Witnesses told police they saw others in the vehicle, but those reports remain under investigation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities say it's being probed as an accident, not a criminal investigation.
