Man arrested in Blue Bell fake bomb robbery

WHITPAIN TWP., Pa. - January 9, 2014

41-year-old Robert E. Sickle, Jr. of the 1800 block of Pulaski Drive in Blue Bell voluntarily turned himself in to police when he learned that an arrest warrant had been issued for his arrest.

Authorities say it was just before midnight Tuesday, December 4, 2012 when Sickle entered the Giant Food Store located on the 1700 block of DeKalb Pike in Blue Bell.

Dressed in a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers, police say Sickle demanded money from the employee at a register. He then allegedly told the clerk he was carrying a bomb, and then showed her the device.

The cashier opened the register, the Sickle took the money and then fled the store.

While fleeing the store, police say Sickle dropped the device on the grounds of the supermarket. It was discovered later by investigators. The bomb squad was called in, and when they took a look at the device, they were able to determine it was not an explosive.

Sickle was arraigned and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.
