Trespasser freed from pipe at NJ water plant

MANALAPAN, N.J. - January 17, 2014

United Water spokesman Rich Henning says the man broke into the plant that treats and pumps water for the township of Manalapan (muh-NAL'-uh-pan). Workers heard cries for help coming from a pipe around 7 a.m. Friday.

Manalapan Mayor Jordan Maskowitz told reporters at the scene that sections of the pipe were removed and heat was pumped in. The man was taken away by an ambulance and his condition is not known.

Henning says the outflow pipe is used for cleaning a storage facility and is no more than 24 inches wide. He says there's no problem with the water quality.
