Wilmington fire ruled accidental; 25 displaced

WILMINGTON, Del. - January 25, 2014

That came from the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office after the fire on Friday night.

Investigators said the fire was caused by "an electrical malfunction igniting surrounding combustibles."

Damage was estimated at $150,000.

The fire was reported at 6 p.m. at the Cranston Hall Apartments on the 3300 block of Old Capitol Trail. Arriving fire crews were met with flames coming from a second floor unit.

The building was safely evacuated and the fire was extinguished.

The American Red Cross is assisting 25 people who were forced from their homes.
