Demolition at West Deptford, New Jersey plant blamed for loud booms

A number of Action News viewers contacted the newsroom on Saturday morning to report loud booms heard across South Jersey and South Philadelphia.

Gloucester County emergency dispatchers confirmed the noise came from the demolition at the old Sunoco plant in West Deptford, New Jersey.

According to a news release issued by West Deptford Township officials, there was a controlled implosion, to take down a tower and a chimney, at the Sunoco Eagle Point Facility.

Officials said West Deptford Police, along with the Verga and Colonial Manor Fire Departments were scheduled to be on scene as a precautionary measure.
