The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging says its Emergency Fund is running very low, due to this winter's intense, prolonged cold.
Coming out of Philadelphia's 13-inch snowfall, the fund only had about $2,000 left in it. Last winter, the fund spent $200,000 to buy fuel for seniors who were running out.
The fund helps seniors directly. Once their need is verified by clergy or a social service agency, it can arrange for next-day delivery.
