Philadelphia firefighters battled a blaze in the basement of an apartment building in the city's Spring Garden section Wednesday morning.

It was around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday when crews responded to the 1900 block of Spring Garden Street.

When they arrived they found flames in the basement and the gas meter was on fire.

The fire department evacuated two apartments above the basement and managed to put out the fire.

However, around 10:20 a.m. the fire department struck a second alarm because there are reports of multiple transformer fires underground.

The incident was placed under control at 10:46 a.m.

There is no report of any injuries. So far, no word on what sparked the fire.
