Traffic stop leads to Marijuana bust in Middletown, Del.

MIDDLETOWN, Del. - February 8, 2014

The incident happened around 1:45 p.m. on the Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway.

A trooper running stationary radar north of Biddle's Toll Plaza observed a 2012 Ford Taurus traveling southbound above the posted speed limit.

The trooper stopped 25-year-old Marquis L Maddox who provided the trooper with his license and rental agreement on the car in which he was not the primary driver.

A computer check also revealed that Maddox's license was suspended out of Pennsylvania.

A tow truck was requested and an inventory search was conducted on the vehicle prior to it being towed.

Officials say inside the trunk of the car was a large box neither of the two occupants, including passenger 30-year-old Torrance R. Lomax, were able to claim.

A state police K9 was dispatched to the stop and alerted positively on the package indicating there were drugs.

Police say approximately 26 pounds of marijuana was discovered in a sealed box.

Both men were arrested and charged with drug related offenses.
