Carport collapses onto man in Horsham

HORSHAM, Pa. - February 18, 2014

It was around 2:30 p.m. when police and firefighters responded to the report of a partial building collapse on the 400 block of Cottonwood Drive.

When they arrived they found a carport attached to a home had collapsed, with the resident of the home trapped underneath.

Rescue crews had to cut through the roof of the collapsed carport to pull the victim to safety.

Horsham Fire Company Chief Tim Flanagan explains, "I suspect he carport collapsed due to the weight of the snow and the fatigue of the building. Unfortunately he was trapped at the bottom part of the carport, which required us to call in additional resources."

The victim, described as a man in his 70's, was then transported to Abington Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
