Dover airman charged in 2012 child death

DOVER, Del. - November 19, 2013 4

The victim, 21-month old Evan J. Dudley, was entrusted in the care of 25-year-old Justin K. Corbett, a Dover Air Force Base airman.

Evan's mother Nikki Dudley was on military deployment at the time. She spoke to Action News about the incident back in November 2013.

Police say on the afternoon of November 3, 2012 Corbett called 911 reporting that Evan was unresponsive after falling down a flight of stairs.

Evan was transferred to Nemours/Alfred I duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington where he died four days later.

An autopsy revealed that Evan suffered multiple injuries to the eye, contusions to the head as well as brain swelling and bleeding. His cause of death was ruled homicide by blunt force trauma.

Authorities say after a comprehensive investigation, they obtained an arrest warrant for Corbett on charges including murder.

He was arraigned and committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Facility on $100,000 Cash Bond.
