It happened shortly before 2:00 Friday afternoon at the school's Baird and Park Boulevard location.
A teacher reported the smell and authorities were quickly called in.
No one was injured.
The gas has been turned off and students were given the all clear to return.
No word yet what sparked the leak. PSE&G crews are investigating.
Officials say the school is expected to be open Monday as scheduled.
