It happened before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 3000 block of East Ontario Street.
Chopper 6 HD over the scene showed a large excavator crane lying on its side.
Officials say a 48-year-old man was operating the excavator when it overturned.
Rescue crews worked for several minutes to free the trapped worker, who suffered head and neck injuries.
Medics rushed him to Temple University Hospital. There was no immediate word on his condition.
An investigation is underway.
