Police: Machetes found on 2 near school

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - March 24, 2014

Allentown police tell The (Easton) Express-Times that a number of fights have occurred at or near William Allen High School after dismissal in recent weeks.

Police said officers learned that several rival gangs were planning to meet near the school Friday, and officers dispersed a large group of people shortly after 1:30 p.m. Friday.

A little while later, officers saw the same group together again and stopped them, finding 14-inch machetes hidden in the pants legs of two 18-year-olds, Rene Diaz and Enrique SalvadorRene Diaz and Enrique Salvador.

Police said machete-type knives have been used in many of the fights. The two suspects, who aren't students, were charged with weapons possession.
