She is charged with 3 counts of endangering the welfare of a child and three counts of reckless endangering.
It was 6:56 p.m. Thursday when emergency crews responded to the 1700 block of North Newkirk Street.
Arriving officers observed smoke coming from the property and learned from neighbors that there were children inside the home.
They tried to kick in the front door as a child called for help from the living room. The door was locked with a deadbolt that couldn't be opened without a key, so the children couldn't open the door.
One neighbor got inside from the back and started passing the children out the window, first a 9-year-old boy, followed by a 2-year-old girl and then a 4-year-old boy.
Investigators determined that their mother had left the residence at approximately 1:00 p.m., leaving the children home alone.
Then around 6:30 p.m., police say, the oldest child noticed the 4-year-old playing with a lighter in a second floor bedroom. The 9-year-old took the lighter and placed it in the bathroom, away from the younger child. But when the older child returned to the bedroom, the bed was on fire.
The boy attempted to put the fire out with water, but was unsuccessful.
All three children were transported to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The 9-year-old boy suffered smoke inhalation, as well as cuts to his hands and feet. The two younger kids suffered smoke inhalation.
Police say it appears Lorraine Wilson frequently left her children home alone. They are now being cared for by their grandmother.
