Pedestrian struck, killed in Bordentown, N.J. identified

BORDENTOWN, N.J. - April 16, 2014

Devote Brown of Foundry Street in Florence, N.J. was hit after 11:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Rising Sun Road.

Bordentown Police said they were first called to the scene by a motorist who reported blowing the horn and swerving to avoid hitting a man, dressed in black, who was standing in the middle of the road near Route 206 and Connector Road.

When officers arrived, they searched the area and found Brown lying unresponsive in the street on nearby Rising Sun Road in front of the Petro truck stop.

Police say he had been struck by a tractor-trailer, which remained at the scene.

The truck driver, 61-year-old Floydie Galberth of Greenville, N.J., was questioned by police. As of Wednesday morning, no charges had been filed.

Police say it was unclear why Brown was apparently standing in the road.

His body was taken to the Burlington County Medical Examiner Office in Westhampton, N.J.

The accident remains under investigation.
