It happened early Saturday morning in the 5400 block of Market Street.
Medics took the victim to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was being treated for a broken leg and other injuries.
Investigators interviewed a witness and found a piece of the headlight from the striking vehicle at the scene.
They were also checking area businesses for surveillance video.
There was no description immediately available of the striking vehicle.
