SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police say several people had to be taken to the hospital after being assaulted by a large crowd in South Philadelphia early Saturday morning.

The incident occurred just after midnight on the 1400 block of South Front Street.

Police say they received several calls about a fight in the area of Front and Dickinson.

Officers arrived and witnesses told them that a fight between two males started inside a private party at the Second Street Shooters Clubhouse.

They say security pushed everyone outside, about a crowd of sixty people and a large fight erupted.

An 18-year-old male was struck in the head with an unknown object. The blunt force caused a laceration that required 12 staples at Jefferson Hospital.

A second 18-year-old male was knocked to the ground and struck his head on the pavement. His stomach was then stepped on by a 22-year-old male suspect.

The third victim, a 19-year-old female says she was struck by a second unknown suspect, one time above the lip and required several stitches at Methodist Hospital.

Two other victims, an 18-year-old male and a 22-year-old male were also struck and received treatment at Methodist Hospital.

The 22-year-old suspect will be charged with simple assault. Police have not released his name.

The investigation is ongoing.
