WINSLOW TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A man had to be rescued from a car after a crash on the Atlantic City Expressway in Winslow Township, New Jersey.

The accident happened around 5:15 a.m. Sunday in the westbound lanes of the expressway.

Police say the driver lost control and crashed into a maintenance truck parked on the side of the road with a flashing arrow.

The truck was positioned to divert traffic from a previous accident.

The impact sent the driver's vehicle off the roadway and into the woods.

Firefighters worked for close to an hour trying to rescue the driver.

Once freed, the man was flown by medical helicopter to Cooper University Hospital.

A woman in the maintenance truck suffered minor injuries.

The accident caused the closure of a portion of the Atlantic City Expressway.

Police are continuing to investigate.
