Stolen puppy from Audubon, Pa. found safe. Jim Gardner reports during Action News at 11 p.m. on May 12, 2017.

AUDUBON, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police in Montgomery County say a tiny Yorkshire terrier puppy has been safely returned to a pet store.

No other details were released on how the dog was returned.

Surveillance cameras at Tom's Pet Outlet in Audubon captured the moment the two pound, eight week old puppy was snatched.

It was around 6:45 Thursday night when a woman walked up to the corner of a puppy case, quickly opens two locks, and then for more than a minute casually picks up and examines at least two of the little dogs.

The video shows her select one of the dogs and pops him into a shoulder bag and then strolls away.

Heading for the front door and the cashier, she stops, turns and reaches down to pet another dog, then nonchalantly continues on her way and exits with a little wave and what looks like a smile.

"She was brazen," said store owner Diane Reed. "She had a puppy in her bag walking out the door, stealing a puppy, taking something she has not bought, and waves at the cashier."

The theft was discovered when a staffer noticed there were too few noses in the puppy case. A check of the video turned up the unknown woman.

A concern, Reed says, is that a puppy this young and small could be susceptible to hypoglycemic shock if the woman doesn't know what she is doing.

"If she is not accustomed to a very tiny, fragile dog and doesn't understand how much she has to care for this dog, it could be very bad," said Reed.

The suspect is believed to be in her 30's or 40's. She had blonde hair and was wearing yoga pants and a green jacket.

The store owner wants people to take a good look at the video in hopes the woman is identified, leading police to the little dog.

If you recognize the woman in the video, you are urged to contact the Lower Providence Police Department in Montgomery County.
