Some small business owners optimistic for future ahead of Trump's presidency

DETROIT -- The latest polls may show that President-elect Donald Trump's current approval ratings are low. But the numbers show a different story for small business owners.

Just over half of those surveyed voted for Trump and many now say they feel optimistic about their future.

Todd Seeburger and his wife Jill own two cheeseburger shops in Detroit, Michigan. They've been open seven days a week for the past nine years and say they're driven by the American dream.

"Just being able to call our own shots and be our own boss," he said.

That's the same dream of the nation's 28 million small business owners, many of whom voted for Donald Trump.

Todd and Jill say lately they've felt forgotten by Washington.

"They just told us what we needed to know or what we needed to do or how we needed to think and they didn't talk to us - they didn't ask us," said Todd.

But they felt Trump knows their dreams and struggles better than any politician.

A lot of politicians in Washington, their career they don't hire and fire people. It's not their personal money on the line, it's the government's money when they hire and fire people. Tt's not their own personal money that they've earned," said Jill.

Jill and Todd hope Trump will deliver on promises to cut corporate taxes, roll back regulations and reform Obama care.

"I would like to see some of these manufacturing jobs come back to the metro area. I'd like to see the overtime come back. I'd like to see the extra money come back," said Todd.

They believe small business is linked to big business. The more hires and higher wages, the more people spend on things like cheeseburgers.

"I think it's already happening," said Todd.

And if Trump doesn't make good on those campaign promises?

"If it just turns out to be lip service and these don't get addressed, then I'd definitely be researching a candidate for the 2020 election. I voted for him, I didn't marry him," said Todd.
