CAMDEN, N.J. (WPVI) -- For volunteers at The Neighborhood Center in Camden, New Jersey, Thanksgiving is about giving back to others.

They all hoped on this day to help those who perhaps cannot put a turkey dinner on the table.

"I feel like it helps keep things in perspective. It helps remind me of what to be thankful for. That we can get whatever we want to make for our Thanksgiving dinner, and not everybody can do that," said Judi Laskodi, volunteer.

"This is about my fourth year of doing it with them. I just come out on each holiday, and help serve the community," said Trish Houston of Deptford, New Jersey.

One by one, they piled those plates up high with turkey and gravy and vegetables and, of course, cranberries.

The Neighborhood Center has been serving Thanksgiving meals to the needy for 103 years now. Executive Chef Lou Wilson, a graduate of the esteemed Culinary Institute of America, has a goal of providing healthy, fresh food to the residents of the impoverished, urban neighborhood.

"Every day we serve an average of 300 meals. We have children's programming, after school teen programs. We serve a noon meal that's open to the public," said Lou Wilson, executive chef.

He and his wife, who also works at the center, hope to teach their daughter, Rosalita, about the importance of helping neighbors in need - even on her first Thanksgiving.

"We thought it was very important to bring her here this morning to show her what we do, and how important it is to give back to people in the community, especially on the holidays," said Christa Galvin, The Neighborhood Center."

"I just love what I do, and I love making people happy and serving them good food," said Wilson.

We heard thanks you's again and again. Those who came for this warm meal were so grateful to these volunteers for including them at the Thanksgiving table.
