A car ended up partially in the Cooper River after a crash in Collingswood, New Jersey.

COLLINGSWOOD, N.J. (WPVI) -- A car ended up partially in the Cooper River after a crash in Collingswood, New Jersey.

The incident happened around 3:40 a.m. Saturday when a car was traveling on North Park Drive.

Police say a driver lost control of his car, ran off the roadway then struck a tree. The car then careened over a lawn and into the Cooper River.

A man and woman were inside the vehicle. The woman had to be rescued, but the man who was driving was able to escape on his own.

Both are being treated at Cooper University Hospital.

Officials say the man will likely be released. The woman is in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
