I-95 in Delaware reopens after Pennsylvania police chase, shootout

Two-state chase, shootout shuts down I-95
A stretch of I-95 was shut down due to a reported police chase that spanned two states and a shootout involving a carjacking suspect.

CLAYMONT, Delaware (WPVI) -- A stretch of I-95 has reopened after a police chase that spanned Pennsylvania and Delaware and a shootout involving a carjacking suspect.

Pennsylvania State Police began chasing the suspect around 4 a.m. Saturday.

The pursuit continued into Claymont, Delaware when the suspect exited onto I-95 near Harvey Road.

Police said the alleged carjacker left his vehicle and exchanged gunfire with the troopers.

There is no word on if anyone was shot or if the suspect was apprehended.

I-95 was closed in both directions from the Pennsylvania-Delaware border to Harvey Road.

Delaware State Police said the road was reopened around 9:30 a.m.

Delaware State Police issued this advisory:

"Delaware State Police are reporting that I-95 in both directions within northern New Castle County has re-opened. There will be no further traffic advisories. A criminal investigation continues into a vehicle pursuit initiated by Pennsylvania Law Enforcement that came to an end on I-95 just south of Naamans Road within Delaware."
