HUNTING PARK (WPVI) -- Emotions are bubbling up over the proposed soda tax hike in Philadelphia.
It was standing room only at a public hearing Tuesday night at Concilio in the city's Hunting Park section.
Council members heard varied opinions from residents about the 3-cents-per-ounce tax on sugary beverages.
Some held signs saying "We can't afford it!" and asking "What will the city tax next?"
While others argued it would lead to a better city and that our kids are worth it.
Mayor Jim Kenney wants to raise $400-million to fund universal pre-K, rehab the city's rundown rec centers, and purchase equipment for the police and fire departments.
