SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- An initiative in South Philadelphia provided kids and their parents with free books Monday.

State representative Maria Donatucci read to children at the Thomas F. Donatucci, Senior Library.

The Citywide Reading event features book giveaways and readings at certain branches of the Free Library of Philadelphia.

Kids were also able to complete arts and crafts while staying cool in the air conditioning.
