FAIRFIELD, N.J. -- Authorities say a car carrying four teenagers crashed when a passenger grabbed the steering wheel while he was joking around with the driver.
The teens suffered minor injuries in the crash that occurred around 8:35 p.m. Saturday on eastbound Route 46 in Fairfield.
Police say the 17-year-old boy driving the car was "messing around" with a 16-year-old boy sitting in the front passenger seat when the incident occurred. The car then slid on the grass and hit two snow plow blades that were on the ground before it came to rest between a sport utility vehicle and a dump truck parked at a home.
The two boys and two 16-year-old girls who were in the back seat all refused medical treatment at the scene.
The driver was cited for careless driving and violating rules regarding his provisional driver's license.
