DEPTFORD TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A tractor trailer carrying bags of rock salt crashed and overturned, slowing traffic on the New Jersey Turnpike.

It happened at 4:30 a.m. Friday in the northbound lanes at milemaker 24.2 in Deptford, New Jersey.

State police say the driver lost control and struck a median.

After striking the median, police say the trailer continued forward, hitting an overpass pylon, which in turn ripped open the trailer spilling the contents of rock salt.

Images from Chopper 6 HD broadcast on Action News at 6:30 a.m. showed the side of the trailer portion of the big rig split wide open.

Hundreds of bags of rock salt were spilled onto the road, blocking the left lanes.

One other vehicle was involved in the crash, but nobody was hurt.

The roadway was clear and open by 10 a.m.
