120 dogs arrive in Delaware Valley for mega-adoption event

NEW CASTLE, Del. -- Dozens of dogs have a new lease on life after arriving in the Delaware Valley this weekend.

A plane touched down in New Castle, Delaware Saturday carrying 120 dogs in need of new families.

The dogs made the trip from overcrowded shelters in the Phoenix, Arizona area.

They will be put up for adoption next weekend at an event hosted by the Brandywine Valley SPCA.

The SPCA says bringing the dogs to the area was a strategic decision.

"In Arizona, there are more small dogs than there are adopters. In this area, we have more adopters for small dogs than we have dogs. So it's really a terrific matchup to save lives," Linda Torelli of the Brandywine SPCA said.

A mega adoption event takes place next Saturday and Sunday at the 23rd Street Armory in Philadelphia.

The adoption fee is $20.
