NORTH WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- An inmate who escaped during a work detail in Delaware Tuesday morning has been captured.

25-year-old Isaiah Thompson was caught early Wednesday after police surrounded a financial services building in Wilmington.

New Castle County Police say Thompson broke into the First Data Corporation building in the 1100 block of Carr Avenue just after 2:00 a.m. Wednesday.

A security guard phoned police shortly afterward, and the building was searched, but nothing was found.

The guard then reviewed security video and saw that someone had, in fact, broken into the building and appeared to be hiding.

Police returned and surrounded the building and swept the building with K-9 units.

Thompson was taken into custody after 3:30 a.m. as he tried to leave through the main entrance.

He has been charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and offensive touching of a law enforcement officer.

He was awaiting arraignment.

It was Tuesday morning when police say Thompson fled while on a work detail in North Wilmington.

The escape happened at 10:20 a.m. along Governor Printz Boulevard near Cauffiel Parkway.

Police tell Action News Thompson was working as part of a road crew when he fled toward Stoney Creek.

He had been serving a Level 4 sentence of work release at the Plummer Work Release Center for an attempted carjacking.
