Delco mom gets Mother's Day makeover surprise

FOLSON, Pa. (WPVI) -- Mother's Day came early for one Delaware county mom with a special surprise thanks to her daughter.

Kathy Yonkers opened her door Saturday to hairstylist Mark Voci then found out it was her daughter Erin's essay that brought him there.

The young widow was surprise with a trip to Voci's salon for a special Mother's Day treat.

"I was not looking forward to Mother's Day this turned it around," said Yonkers.

Erin entered a contest at her school St. James Regional. The prize for the winning essay was a makeover from Voci.

"Erin's essay touched me a lot. They recently just lost their dad. I just thought it would be wonderful for Mother's Day to bring the spirit alive for her," said Mark Voci.

Just two months ago, the Yonkers children lost their dad Pat. Yonkers says she didn't even know Erin entered the contest.

"She's amazing, she's like her dad always thinking of others," said Yonkers.

"She does everything for me," said Erin of her mom and why she deserved to win.

With the makeover came hair, makeup and clothes from Macy's plus lunch at Applebee's.

It was all topped off with Erin reading her essay out loud.

Voci says he's not trying to get recognition for the makeover, many of which he often gives away, he just wants someone to pay it forward.

"I say pay it forward every day, if it's a little gesture or a big gesture. Make someone's day, put a smile on their face, it's so easy to do," said Voci.
