PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The sense Tuesday night among fanatic sports fans is they gave Chip Kelly the keys to the kingdom and he sunk the ship, but few were expecting the news just days before the last game of the Eagles season.

The sports world is abuzz with word of Kelly's firing and most fans were elated with the news.

And of course sports talk radio hosts were also chiming in on what's arguably the biggest Philadelphia sports story of the year.

"People were shocked. I reached out to a couple players I know from covering the team on a daily basis," said Matt Lombardo of 97.5 The Fanatic. "It's interesting they're finding out from one another. They're shocked by the move."

Some were shocked Jeffrey Lurie had the chops to fire Kelly in the manner that he did.

"I think he realized that he made a mistake giving him control of the whole ship early and this is kinda payback for it. 'I gave you this and I trusted you and you took my franchise into the toilet right now," said Mike Missanelli of 97.5 The Fanatic.

Former Eagle Jeremiah Trotter had this to say: "I think he started to see that Chip started to lose the team, you know, when you have guys like Peter come out and say, 'I don't play for the head coach.' I mean, no matter if you don't like the coach, you gotta respect him."

The big question Tuesday night is where will the Eagles go from here?
