PLACERVILLE, Ca. (WPVI) -- A 10-year-old in California says a show of school spirit got her suspended.

Jazmine Foster was sent home on Monday because she put blue highlights in her hair.

Blue is the school color.

According to the student handbook at Schnell Elementary in Placerville, it is also a distraction.

Her mom, Krystal Flood says, "A lot of other kids had done it, but it had not been an issue. It's not distracting in my opinion."

Flood says she can't afford to take Jazmine back to the salon right away to fix the streaks.

The principal has worked out a deal to allow Jazmine to return to school with the highlights, temporarily.
