A school board in Berks County is set to approve armed security officers in its schools during a meeting Monday night.

The new safety measure would take effect in the Governor Mifflin School District when classes start later this month.

Uniformed security officials would carry handguns while patrolling the halls.

Officials who support the proposal point out that 20 other districts in Pennsylvania have adopted similar policies and are getting positive feedback from parents.
