EAGLEVILLE, Pa. -- Students in the Methacton School District are back in class following a three-day teacher strike.

7th to 12th graders went back on Friday morning.

Younger students were already scheduled off for an in-service day and will return Monday.

Teachers walked off the job earlier this week, but have since agreed to enter into non-binding arbitration.

The district indicated it had offered a wage hike package that averaged more than $10,000 over three years.

Diana Kernop, union president, explains her understanding of the plan, which apparently calls for both sides to put their bottom line cards on the table for all to see.

"Before Tuesday both sides with give their last best offer to each other, I would assume, and then it goes public, and there will be a 20 day period where the public can comment both proposals and then it goes to an arbitrator - it's a three person panel," she said.

A contract covering about 400 teachers expired at the end of June.
