MILL CREEK, Del. (WPVI) -- Firefighters rescued an elderly man and his dog from their burning home early Saturday morning.

Crews were called out to the 4400 block of Verona Drive in Mill Creek, Del. just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

They arrived to find flames shooting from the first floor of the home.

Firefighters battled the fire and made their way to the second floor where they rescued a 91-year-old man from his bedroom, along with his dog.

The man was taken to Christiana Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The dog was taken to a local vet for treatment.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
