Weekend Happenings - May 31, 2019
Jessica Boyington has the Weekend Happenings for May 31 to June 2.

We are drying out, just in time for several outdoor festivals around our region.

Here's Action News' Jessica Boyington with a look at this weekend's happenings.

Philly Beer Week kicks off tonight (Friday May 31st) but one event that we wanted to highlight is actually happening on Saturday and is in honor of a very special pup. "Dougal" is the resident brewery dog for Evil Genius Beer Company. In celebration of his birthday the brewery created a beer inspired by him called "The Doog Abides". (And yes it's spelled with two o's) You can taste samples of Dougal's beer during the Evil Genius Block Party from Noon-8pm.

The Philadelphia Irish Festival brings a day full of traditional Irish dance performances to the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing. The high energy event takes place on Sunday from Noon-7pm.

On Saturday shove off to the Independence Dragon Boat Regatta on the Schuylkill River. The colorful boats hit the water at 8 am.

32 creameries in 22 counties are taking part in this season's Ice Cream Trails. Enjoy the cool treat at any of the statewide locations starting Saturday.

An all-star lineup will take over The Mann Center on Saturday for the annual "Roots Picnic". Acts include Lil Baby, 21 Savage and H.E.R. The first performance begins at Noon.

The 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing is being celebrated with three new celestial exhibits in Doylestown, Bucks County. "From Here to There" and "Making Astronauts: From Bucks County to the Moon" will debut at the Mercer Museum. "The Color of the Moon: Lunar Painting in American Art" will take place at the Michener Art Museum. All three exhibitions run through Sunday, September 8th.

Fete Day at Elfreth's Alley will be held on Saturday from 1pm-5pm. Homes along the nation's oldest residential street will be open for rare public viewings.

The Chester County Blues Barbecue will be held Saturday at Wyndsor Farm in Everson from 2pm-7pm. Guests can expect plenty of barbecue and music from local blues artists.

On Sunday head to South Philadelphia for the "La Festa Street Festival" on East Passyunk Avenue. From 11am-7pm the street will be lined with vendors selling food, crafts, specialty items, wine and beer. Along with the great eats there will be two stages providing live entertainment, wine-making demonstrations and culinary displays.

Opa Restaurant is debuting a new menu. There are over 20 new items as well as new offerings from Drury Beer Garden. Opa is located at 1311 Sansom St.
