If you have an older parent living with you, you know how important it is that every area of your home is as safe as possible, especially the steps to prevent falls.

Nina Sherman lives with her 88-year-old mother.

She says the middle step leading up to their house was cracked so she hired a contractor to fix it.

"When they re-did the steps, the top step, when you walked, you pitched forward and, to me, it's not safe," Sherman said.

So she contacted the cement contractor to come back to fix it.

"He just blew me off. He said, 'I'm with a customer, I'll call back.' He didn't call back. I called again. He didn't answer. I called again. There was no answer," Sherman said.

So then Sherman dialed the Action News Troubleshooters.

"I think Call for Action did a great job," Sherman said.

Our Call for Action volunteers called the contractor and stayed on top of the situation until the repair was - shall we say - cemented.

The top step was finally fixed once and for all.

"I was really grateful," Sherman said.
