Matt's Stocking gifts children in need for Christmas

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (WPVI) -- A group of Girl Scouts did a little shopping in Mays Landing Friday to help a good cause.

Matt's Stocking was created by April Lassor after her 12-year-old son was killed in a car accident in 1997.

Lassor said the first Christmas without him was especially difficult.

"I didn't know what to do with his stocking, and my middle son had suggested buying some gifts for a kid at our church so that's kind of how it started," said Lassor.

Since then, the ministry has grown and Lassor hopes to serve 170 families this year.
