CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- Dozens of children roamed Philadelphia City Hall Thursday as part of "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day."

Mayor Michael Nutter kicked off the event.

Mentees, ages 8 to 18, spent the day shadowing their parents or relatives to get of sense of what is like to work in a professional environment.

As part of the national mentoring initiative, the City of Philadelphia also hosted foster children from Northwest Philadelphia and Strawberry Mansion.

More than 37 million youth and adults were expected to participate at millions of workplaces across the country.
