PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (WPVI) -- A father and son narrowly escaped a raging house fire in Pleasantville, Atlantic County Tuesday morning.

Action News viewer Eude Santiago was driving near the intersection of Adams and Linden avenues when he noticed smoke.

As he got closer, Santiago realized a two-story home was engulfed in flames.

Officials said high winds fanned the flames, making the fire difficult to put out.

Fortunately, a father and his five-year-old son were able to get out, using the second floor porch, before fire consumed their home.

They were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the escape.

Four puppies also had to be rescued.

Officials said the house, however, was a total loss.
