Firefighter honored for saving couple
Firefighter honored for saving couple. Walter Perez reports during Action News at 11 p.m. on September 10, 2017.

It was an emotional Sunday for a Philadelphia firefighter, who saved a couple from a burning building.

Shaun Swayngim rescued Bernice Jones, and her blind husband Richard after a fire broke out inside their home along the 800 block of Upsal Street back in March.

Today during the annual Firefighter and Medic Recognition Day, Swayngim received an award for his heroism.

Bernice Joseph said, "He was very calm and I was terrified, and I said don't let me fall, and he said I won't."

Swayngim said, "Seeing them today is everything I needed to do to remember why I do my job every day. You go to work every day hoping to make a difference, and to put an impact on somebody's life, and I was able to do it."
