POWELTON (WPVI) -- Firefighters have a house fire under control in the city's Powelton section.

Crews were called out to a vacant house at 3915 Fairmount Avenue around 5:40 a.m. Saturday where they found heavy flames shooting from the second and third floor of a three story home.

A squatter who was found inside the vacant home was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire spread and destroyed two other homes as well, leaving four people without a place to live.

At least one was destroyed, displacing two people. Another home suffered water and smoke damage, displacing a mother and daughter.

The Red Cross has offered assistance.

No word on what may have sparked the fire.
