KEARNY, N.J. (WPVI) -- Flash flooding left a North Jersey mother and her son trapped in their SUV.

Carol Schementi and her son Anthony were on their way home Sunday when their car stalled in Kearny.

Water from the heavy rains quickly filled the vehicle.

Both perched on the tops of their seats while they waited for help.

Firefighters arrived in a boat, gave them life vests, and brought them to safety.
