PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The food aisles are expanding with a host of new products. If you're intrigued by all of it, local registered dietitian Kelly Jones showed off some interesting new healthy options, starting with a host of new dairy-free options that are really making waves.
"What's great is that there are a lot of these products out now which are non-dairy, but have real ingredients which wasn't always the case," she said.
Like banana milk.
"They say it tastes like liquid banana bread and I have tried it - it's pretty delicious," said Kelly.
It's also all about nuts
"They do have proteins and healthy fats and do provide you with actual nutrition," said Kelly.
One new cream cheese is almond based and cashews are really having a moment right now.
"Cashews are an excellent source of iron, which a lot of people do not know, and contain lots of healthy fats," said Kelly.
They're helping create a range of dairy free options, from yogurt to pub cheese.
"This really tastes like cheese and its not filled with a lot of weird additives you don't recognize," said Kelly.
Apple cider is still a hot health ingredient and it's making it's way into sparkling drinks.
"So kind of tastes like a kombucha, but more of the benefits of apple cider vinegar for digestive tract," said Kelly.
Natural sweeteners are also surging, everything from melon to honey to maple.
"Looking to get more natural added sugars rather than processed sugars to sweeten things, but sweeten it just lightly so this is maple water and it just comes from the maple trees," said Kelly.
Finally, grab and go overnight oats are also big right now.
A Camden based company called the Soulfull Project has created a healthy option with a cause. For each serving purchased, they donate a serving to a food bank.
