ORLANDO, Fla. (WPVI) -- Here's some new motivation for watching how much you eat.

Extra inches around the waist are dangerous, even if the rest of you is normal sized.

A study out of the current heart association meetings says those beer bellies and muffin tops can double the risk of dying of heart attack or stroke within the next 10 years.

ABC News Nutrition and Wellness Editor Dave Zinczenko notes, "It's tucked next to your organs, it's feeding them toxins. This is the riskiest fat in your body."

To check your risk, measure your waist about an inch above your navel.

Then measure your hips, and divide your waist size by that number.

For men, a number over zero-point-9 indicates you've got what's called 'central obesity.'

For women, a number over zero-point-85 means it's time eat healthier, and get moving more!
