The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has received a $5 million gift from the Wawa Foundation.

UNIVERSITY CITY (WPVI) -- The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has received a $5 million gift from the Wawa Foundation.

During a ceremony Tuesday morning, CHOP dedicated a new Wawa Volunteer Center inside the hospital's Center for Advanced Pediatric Care in University City.

CHOP is also renaming its volunteer program, to be called the "Wawa Volunteer Program."

CHOP said its goal is to increase its volunteer program to 1,000 participants.

At this morning's event, Elana Brewer, Child Life and Volunteer Services Director, said, "We could not grow at this speed nor the capacity without the support from the Wawa Foundation. Thank you Wawa and Wawa Foundation for making all of this possible."

Wawa's founding family has had a history of supporting CHOP, dating back 160 years.
