California issues guidance on cell phones. Tamala Edwards reports during Action News at 6 a.m. on December 18, 2017.

California public health officials are warning people about cellphones.

The state agency says people can reduce exposure to cellphone radiation by keeping their cellphones away from their bed at night and by not keeping them in their pocket.

Technically, the scientific community has not reached a consensus on the risks of cellphone use.

But the state health department warns research already suggests long-term, extensive use may affect health.
