Man makes 807th platelet donation

CHRISTIANA, Del. (WPVI) -- A man on a life-saving mission helped Delaware kick off a major blood drive.

Al Whitney was at the Christiana Donor Center on Monday for his 807th platelet donation.

Whitney is an Ohio resident. He's made all those donations in just five years and in all 50 states.

He was one of the first donors at the Blood Bank of Delmarva's annual Summer Blood Challenge.

Between blood and platelets, Whitney has been donating since 1965.
