Women have reached an unfortunate equality with men.

NEW YORK, N.Y. (WPVI) -- Women have reached an unfortunate equality with men.

Almost as many women are drinking alcohol - and having problems with it.

Teams at Columbia University in the U-S and Australia's University of New South Wales found that men & women born in the 1990s - the millennials - have the same drinking rates.

And their rates of alcohol abuse, or being in treatment for it, are about the same.

A century ago, 3 times as many men as women had drinking problems.

The researchers say later childbearing age, and more women working outside the home are driving the change
