MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (WPVI) -- A local fitness club is adding locations and bringing one of its most popular classes with it. Some call it "kickboxing to the extreme."

Life Time Fitness will be opening three new clubs around the Philadelphia area.

I went to their club in Mount Laurel, New Jersey to try the Strike workout.

Fitness guru Tru Adams starts the high-energy Strike class with some mixed martial-arts inspired moves.

And your arms will feel a bit heavy; most wear weighted gloves.

Then get ready for some tough intervals that mimic stick fighting.

Using a six to nine pound body bar, you'll work on blocking and striking. It gets your heart rate up and your muscles pumping.

"This is an entire body workout. There is nothing that is left behind, everything is working, everything is engaged," Adams said.

Martina Tejeda of Mount Laurel admits she almost walked out of her first Strike class, but she kept at it.

"I'm not the fittest, but I'm here giving 100%," Tejada said.

And she has noticed results, sculpting her body and improving her endurance.

Adams says the class is for all levels. You can modify moves, but be ready to push your limits.

"You figure out who you are and what you're made of in this class," Adams said.

The class is high-intensity interval training, or HIIT, which is one of the best ways to burn calories and fat.

It also incorporates strength training, so you'll get a full body workout in 60 minutes.

I can tell you, I felt it mostly in my legs, my back and my obliques.
